Food is a right
...not a privilege.
Every New Yorker deserves nourishing meals and the dignity of knowing where their next meal will come from. Yet Food Bank For NYC reports that 1.4 million New Yorkers face food insecurity, with one in four children affected. These are our neighbors, classmates, coworkers, and friends. Building a city where everyone has enough to eat takes communities coming together—sharing resources, supporting one another, and making access to food a shared responsibility.
Kommissary turns that belief into daily action. Working with schools, city agencies, and community organizations, it delivers meals to children, older adults, families, and people facing emergencies. Its mission goes beyond filling plates: culturally familiar food and meals tailored to dietary needs help people feel respected and cared for. From delivering millions of meals during the pandemic to providing dependable everyday service, Kommissary builds the connections that help communities support their own. With more than 39 million meals delivered since 2019, it is fighting food insecurity one meal at a time, working toward a New York where every neighbor can count on being nourished and supported.
