Menu Planning & Access

From children to seniors, we serve the full gamut by producing quality menus customized for all age groups. Additionally, our ability to serve culturally relevant meals allows us to cater to communities where others simply can’t. Whether it’s a normal lunch day at school, or a medically-tailored meal for a senior, our chefs understand the diligence needed how to customize menu for each unique program.

Logistics

We maintain a fleet of 30+ vehicles with the ability to perform bulk drops or home deliveries. Furthermore, our ability to deliver both hot and cold meals allows us to work with almost any local feeding program.

Technology

We bring community feeding into the 21st century. With a GPS enabled fleet and online ordering (coming summer 2021), our tech enabled suite puts us farther along than any other provider in this space.

Kommissary delivers chef-crafted, aspirational meals that kids actually enjoy! We serve the full spectrum of educational facilities, including charter schools, daycares, K–12, and most-importantly; children in highrisk communities. With intimate knowledge of NSLP, CACFP, and USDA feeding requirements, we understand the effort it takes to feed children well in school. At Kommissary Kitchen, our programs are designed to drive higher participation, put a heavier focus on nutrition, and children foster healthy relationships with food at an earlier age.

We want kids to be more closely connected and involved with their food ecosystem. And to that end we strive to help kids make connections from the classroom to the cafeteria with respect to food. With more education we can help children, particularly those in more vulnerable communities, to make healthy food choices, and build habits that will stay with them well into adulthood.

Whole Ingredients

By using whole ingredients and making fresh meals, we reduce our reliance on additives and preservatives. Second, it allows us to source more locally, injecting more vibrance into the local economy by supporting regional farmers and producers. Lastly, helps with a more transparent supply chain. The conversation around where our food is coming from has increased exponentially in the last decade. We plan on being a leader in this space by creating more food forward classrooms and cafeterias in the region.

Variety

We serve kids in a multitude of settings, including daycare programs, charter schools, non-profit organizations, and community feeding programs. We are striving to push the envelope and change the conversation on what children are willing to try, if just given the change (from kale to kiwi, to edamame).

In a city as expansive as New York, we work in neighborhoods with diverse ethnic backgrounds. By serving culturally relevant meals, we are paying respect to our children’s heritage while still increasing food accessibility and introducing them to new and exciting foods they may not experience otherwise. As educators it is our responsibility to give these children access.

Kommissary kitchen is the fastest growing provider of senior and medically tailored meals in NYC. Have commensurate experience serving high quality, whole-ingredient meals to those receiving Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements, as well as special needs groups. Kommissary’s in-house staff of chefs and dietitians understand the critical role nutrition plays in population health, and our meals are made to help foster independence and aid recovery.

Congregate Meals

We help reduce hunger and food insecurity for seniors across New York City through our congregate feeding programs. We customize our services in specific ways: through our menus (cuisine and neighborhood), our superior logistical support (30+ vehicles & centrally located kitchen), and through our tailored meals (hot, cold, frozen). This flexibility invariably enhances the quality that care agencies are able to provide and customize for their members.

Home Delivered Meals

In the wake of the pandemic, Kommissary partnered directly with New York City to provide over 4 million pre-plated meals to vulnerable seniors. Our production and distribution capabilities made us a preferred partner through this time of crisis. Our meals can also be reimbursed in conjunction with Medicare/Medicaid programs towards population health initiatives.

Pantry Boxes / Shelf Stable Meals

Kommissary Kitchen also provides pantry boxes and shelf stable meal kits for programs requiring a more diverse set of options for their clients. These solutions tend to be most often utilized in emergency feeding situations, but can be customized to complement your existing meal program.

Older Americans singlehandedly have been the most vulnerable group over the last 12 months. Because of their susceptibility, their reduced ability to receive care and be in social settings have severely impacted their quality of life.

In the wake of the pandemic, Kommissary partnered directly with New York City to provide over millions of meals to vulnerable populations throughout the city. We continue to be a valued partner for tri-state agencies, municipalities and community feed programs focused on addressing food insecurity in times of crisis.

Our work on the front lines has given us a unique insight into the gaps in food justice that New York City still faces. Kommissary is committed to addressing these systemic imbalances by partnering with institutions who have witnessed the same, and are also excited at the prospect of creating more equitable food access for those most in need.
